Welcome to all the resources you’ll need to crochet and become a hook master, quickly! This page is designed to have everything you will need, including the basic crochet stitches, what yarns are best for specific projects, how to read a yarn label, beginner friendly project ideas, and so much more! If you have bought the Katiebeingcreative Crochet Kit, feel free to move on to the “Reminders Before We Start” section below.
If you have not purchased the Katiebeingcreative Crochet Kit, you can click here to do so! This kit will provide you with everything you need in order to make a beginner dishcloth! And trust me, itโs much easier than trying to go out and find all the right materials yourself!
Reminders Before We Start
Before we start I want you to keep in mind that learning to crochet can be frustrating. Remember to take a deep breath and stay calm if you are starting to feel it is getting difficult.
Thereโs no timeframe for learning, so take your time and enjoy the journey! Remember, Rome wasnโt built in a day! Just have confidence in yourself and remember you got this!
Finally before we start! Crochet isnโt for everyone and thatโs okay! If you try it and decide it isnโt for you that is perfectly fine. Thereโs plenty of hobbies I have tried and not enjoyed, so if crochet is one of those for you do not feel bad! At least youโll be able to give it your best shot and know if itโs a hobby youโll enjoy or not.
Learning Crochet
Your Katiebeingcreative Learn To Crochet Kit includes a skein (aka ball) of 100% cotton yarn, a 5 mm crochet hook, a tapestry/yarn needle, and a stitch marker. You will also need to the crochet pattern, which you can click here to access, and you will need scissors. Other materials that may be helpful include paper and something to write with. This way you can keep track of your rows and stitches.
I recommend having the crochet pattern next to you as you follow along with the video. This way you can get the hang of reading a crochet pattern. Having the pattern open on another device, or printing it would be best. Click here to download the pdf so you can print it/ have it open.
Once you have all of these materials ready, it is time to move on to the dishcloth tutorial! In this tutorial you will learn how to read a crochet pattern, what all the supplies are used for, how to read a yarn label, some crochet tips and tricks, and of course how to crochet and make your dishcloth!
Once youโre ready to get started, click here to access the tutorial! And don’t forget to come back to this page for all the other resources, once you finish watching the tutorial video!

Repeat this video or parts of this video as many times as you need to get the hang of the basic crochet stitches and techniques. It will take time, dedication, and quite a lot of patience to start to feel confident in your crochet, but donโt worry youโve got this!
More About Yarn
Another important thing to learn about, which I definitely wish I had learned more of at the beginning of my crochet journey, is yarn types and what kinds of projects they are good for. Below you can find my YouTube video that discusses this topic!

Keep in mind crochet is an art form so there is no right or wrong yarns to use for any projects! The point is to be creative and make whatever you would like with whatever you would like! This video is just a guide for the most common yarn types and what they are commonly used for.
Next letโs discuss yarn weights and crochet hook sizes! My video on yarn weights will explain in farther detail each yarn weight and what crochet hook sizes go along with them.
Click here to watch this video!

Again crochet allows for a lot of creative freedom, so this video is just general guidelines for what hook sizes go well with what yarn weights. These guidelines are great for a starting point, but it is also a good idea to follow what hook size your crochet pattern tells you to use so that you can achieve the desired look for the project you are making!
Now letโs discuss beginner friendly yarns! As you learned in the yarns types video above, there are so many different yarns on the market! Quite a lot of these are more complicated for beginner crocheter to use, so it is great to have a list of beginner friendly yarns and links for where to find them. This video with discuss what yarns I recommend for beginner crocheters and provide those links!

Other Beginner Friendly Project Ideas
Now that you’ve been able to complete your dishcloth, you’re probably looking for your next crochet project ideas! Below is a list of beginner crochet projects I recommend you try out next! The easiest project for you to move onto now is making a headband with my headband pattern! This headband has a free written pattern and a video tutorial! As you follow the video tutorial for this project I recommend having the written pattern up at the same time, just like you did for the dishcloth. This is just for you to get familiar with reading written crochet patterns while following the video tutorial. Doing this will set you up for being able to read written crochet patterns in the future. And therefore not have to follow video tutorials forever!

My sunflower keychain pattern is a bit more advanced, but it is a super quick project to make if you would like to give it a shot!
